the brooklyn farmacy will be closed
January 17—February 1
open again, februrary 2nd
(groundhog day)
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Really, it’s but a Brief Rest
Because after a year and a half we could really, really use one. And because our ol’ Pops in Florida, he deserves a visit. And because as you may have noticed, our back room could use a good paint over. And then, there is the obvious. The cold winds have begun to blow here in Brooklyn. (Why, we may even get snow soon!) Perhaps, for a brief time, ice cream may not be at the front of everyone’s mind. Like the brown bear, we will all be nestled, quiet, resting. But not for too long!  Because just like the Groundhog, we will emerge on February 2nd! And shadow or no shadow, Farmacy’s doors will be open straight through ‘till the next January. So, bear with us, (pun intended) because when we do open, we’ll have New Ice Cream Flavors! New Sundaes! And New Artisanal Foods made by local and family-owned businesses. And before you know it, we’ll be celebrating Valentine’s DayAnd it will all be fine. You need the rest, and by gosh, so do we! Happy New Year’s Everyone, and please take note... we will be closed from January 17-February 1st. We'll open again on February 2nd, Groundhog Day. See you at the Farm!

Shop Small & Give Big

Some of what's in store now....
In this season of giving, we whole-heartedly encourage you to shop local and shop small. All the little mom-n-pop stores and small businesses out there need—and welcome—your support! More often than not we have something unique to offer....things you won't find in the mall or the big department store.
Here at the Brooklyn Farmacy the sweetest gift is the experience that you'll have at the soda fountain. Bring your visiting friends and family to the fountain and let time stand still with us, for just a short while. Time well spent with loved ones is a gift, indeed!
But second to that, our shelves are stocked with locally made products that make great gifts for giving. Some are tasty, some are cuddly, some are from New Jersey and some are from upstate NY. From artisanal simple syrups made in Brooklyn, to a marinara sauce made in Hoboken, we have the best of what our surrounding area has to offer.
Let us help you create a gift bag of local goodies while we tell you about the loose leaf teas made in Manhasset, NY, and the sweater toys made around the corner in Carroll Gardens. Chances are, you may even meet one of the makers, as many of our vendors personally bring their wares to the store themselves.
And once all your shopping is taken care of..... please accept our invitation to take a seat on a red swirling barstool and enjoy our seasonal white peppermint shake!
Happy Holidays to all of you, and thank your for your support. Together we can make a difference — and have some wicked good fun, too!
— See you at the Farm!

"Go Sit On Your Own Stoop!" Author John Khoury at the Farmacy

Meet John Khoury, Author of
GO SIT ON YOUR OWN STOOP!
Stories of Growing up in Brooklyn in the 70s
Saturday December 3, 11-1PM
at the Brooklyn Farmacy & Soda Fountain
513 Henry Street, Carroll Gardens

John will be signing books and talking 'bout growing up in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn until someone stops him. (no offense, John, but right?)

You know, there are many things that we love about being nestled here in Carroll Gardens. But what makes this spot extra special is that despite the ever-changing demographics, our neighborhood is still called home to many people whose families have lived here for generations.
On a regular basis people stop into the Farmacy who remember coming into this same store when it was Longo's Pharmacy, years ago. (see one of our previous blogs with a letter from another local kid, Augustino Vitiello) We always enjoy hearing their stories and meeting the people who made this neighborhood what it is: A place where the people who run the corner store know you, and even your kid, by name.
We've tried our best to retain that neighborhood touch here at the Farmacy, and so we are very happy to have a particular neighborhood kid, (now grown up), JOHN KHOURY in our store this Saturday morning. John will be signing copies of his newly self-published book, Go Sit On Your Own Stoop! Growing up in Brooklyn in the 70s. Khoury's book brings to life the unique flavor of this special place we call home, with stories that make you laugh out loud, and in the case of some of the guys that still live on the block, remember with a twinkle in their eye. Please join us in welcoming him —and spread the word. We'll have strong coffee brewing, some crazy good donuts from Peter Pan Bakery, and of course, egg creams. Bring your mom. Bring your dad. Bring your kids. It is sure to be a special morning at the Farm.

Who is That Guy?:
John Khoury was born in Bensonhurst in 1967 and moved with his family to South Brooklyn a few years later. Instantly captivated by stunning brownstones, omnipresent smell of freshly baked bread and the neck-snapping sight of crotchety old women returning home from the butcher dressed in nothing but smocks, pink curlers and a lip dangling Pall Mall, he realized this place was something special and its influence is what fuels John’s accounts of his time there in his book, Go Sit On Your Own Stoop!
